“To read a newspaper is to refrain from reading something worthwhile. The first discipline of education must therefore be to refuse resolutely to feed the mind with canned chatter.”
- Aleister Crowley
Hear, hear!
First you start with one newspaper, then you move on to several more, soon enough you have over thirty that you check throughout the week, and you’re now reading ones from foreign countries.
It is great to be informed, but I think it is better to form your own insightful opinions about what you read and not become an echo chamber for the media.
Obama likes to have an occasional cigarette? His wife is wearing what? People on Twitter and Facebook are passing along unconfirmed information that is hearsay? The economy is still absolute shit? You don’t say!
Books will always have a higher value when it comes to feeding the mind with things of the mind.
